about

Bananafest Destiny - I got a copy of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos as a prize for being salutatorian (out of a class of six students) graduating from Harbor Country Day School’s 9th grade. I met Tim at HCDS, but he had left for the Knox School as soon as he could. We wrote the lyrics (over the phone) because we were pissed about the idea of colonizing Mars when we couldn’t even take care of Earth. Tim came up with the great title/chorus line. We were pretty close with the prediction “this is not a fantasy, in 30 years it’s reality” and Ben saying “wow!” added a level of cuteness unheard of in punk rock. Tim wrote the music for a band for a band we had started with Bob Cuomo. I’m trying to copy Mr. T at the end of the song.

lyrics

Man’s not happy with the planet Earth
He wants to go destroy some other worlds
Maybe Mars or maybe space, just to please the human race

Manifest Destiny

Join the world for the quest
Fighting to see who gets the best
You know it’s happened once before, Indians died to feed the capitalist whore

Manifest Destiny

This is not a fantasy, 30 years to reality
Man makes a killing off the unknow
Gentrify Mars for a TV Show

Sagan’s Catastrophy tonight on TV
NBC Be There, Fool!

Stands For Nothing New York

Hardcore punk
recorded live in Crowley's bedroom 1985

"S.F.N. 'Stands For Nothing,' but their music is definitely a cut above. Very tight playing and excellent production bring out some of the subtleties in their complex power-thrash approach. Bits of jazz thrown in here and there break the uniformity, as do the intelligent lyrics. Lotsa songs."
