about

Metamorphosis - I was the guitar player with Tim on bass in a metal band called “Purgatory”. Tim got really good on guitar and I didn’t like practicing so we swapped instruments. The bass line on this song is all “power chords” that I was used to playing on guitar. I’m trying to sing like my idol, Lemmy. We were forced to read Franz Kafka’s story in school, so the lyrics were a play on that story except the subject turns into a punk instead of an insect. It seemed clever at the time. Our good friends Margo Schwadron and Ron Phillips (from Satan’s Cheerleaders) had a fanzine called “YBU”, that’s where the last line in the song comes from. The moo at the end was recorded during Tim’s trip to India.

lyrics

He wakes up one morning feeling rather slow
He was up late last night because of Krietzer’s show
He had it made, not better place to be
But he turned into a punk
And now he’ll be sorry

One can’t fight all their life trying to be a man
Punk becomes a last resort, not a promised land
He’d rather be where his life could be carefree
Now he wants to save the world, too bad that has to be

This is life, at 18
This is why we’re dying
Modern world is crying
Why be you?

Stands For Nothing New York

Hardcore punk
recorded live in Crowley's bedroom 1985

"S.F.N. 'Stands For Nothing,' but their music is definitely a cut above. Very tight playing and excellent production bring out some of the subtleties in their complex power-thrash approach. Bits of jazz thrown in here and there break the uniformity, as do the intelligent lyrics. Lotsa songs."
